For a person who is lactose intolerant, going out to eat with friends is dreadful. You may accidentally forget your lactase enzyme caplets and all the items on the menu have at least some dairy in it. You cannot just eat foods containing dairy and then suffer, but you do not want to just sit there and watch everyone else eat– especially if you have not eaten all day. Sigh.
